What is L-Tyrosine?

L-Tyrosine is an amino acid that is used to produce noradrenaline and help promote a positive mood.Tyrosine is a precursor to monoamine and catecholamine neurotransmitters which help dial in focus and motivation.*

L-Tyrosine is one of the 22 amino acids used by cells to synthesize proteins.* It is considered a nonessential amino acid, as the body can produce L-Tyrosine from dietary L-Phenylalanine by way of the phenylalanine hydroxylase enzyme. However, it is also found in many foods, like almonds, chicken, milk, and avocados. The body then can convert L-Tyrosine into L-DOPA, using the tyrosine hydroxylase enzyme. This is considered a rate-limiting step, as the body can up/downregulate the enzymes to control how much of a specific amino acid is created.
